Title: The Sylvester Equation and Its Applications to Perturbation of Eigenspaces
Abstract: The matrix equation AX-XB=C arises in several contexts. We will present some general facts, and then specific solutions suited to applications in deriving perturbation bounds for eigenspaces of Hermitian and normal matrices. Perturbation of some other matrix functions such as the square root and the polar factors will also be discussed.
